Community Support Services

“Healthy Ageing” and “Ageing in Place” are the main concerns of our community support services. We encourage elders to develop healthy and balanced life, make good use of their leisure time, and participate actively in different activities to develop their potentials to the fullest. Besides, to actualize the concept of “Ageing in Place”, we provide home care services, nursing and rehabilitation services to assist the needy elders and their families living in the community. With 41 different types of community support services centres, we strive to provide a wide spectrum of quality services to our elders.

Residential Services

"Holistic Care" and "Continuum of Care" are the key focus of our residential care services. Through different types of residential care service which run by our 25 elderly homes and multi-disciplinary staff teams, we provide quality and comprehensive care and rehabilitation services to those elders in need to enable them to enjoy their old age.

長者日專題探討:「吾」退休?「唔」退休


隨著人口老齡化、人均壽命增加,高齡人士的健康水平提升,近年社會有不少關於延長退休年齡、將長者納入勞動人口等討論。適逢11月21日是「長者日」,東華三院方樹泉長者地區中心推行社區教育工作,並找來專責長者服務的社會工作員鄭展豪先生,分享前線工作體驗,期望提升筲箕灣區商戶及社區人士對就業長者的認識及關顧,建立長者友善社區。

鄭展豪先生從事長者服務工作十年,他經常走到前線接觸和了解在職長者需要。他發現,在筲箕灣的街道上,仍有不少長者從事街邊小販、餐廳洗碗及街道清潔等工作。他接觸過百位在職長者個案,發現不少具備領取社會福利金資格,祇要身體機能許可,寧願繼續工作賺取薪金來維持生活。當中接近七成並沒有考慮或計劃退休,箇中原因形形色色,包括透過工作肯定自我價值、尋找生活寄託、或者不想成為子女負擔等。

鄭先生表示,部份社區人士不理解長者「打工」原因,有些更誤會他們年少不努力,沒有積蓄而令他們晚年潦倒;有部份食肆商店會嫌棄他們的工作污穢,不希望他們久留。其實長者們都是靠自己努力,去維持生活及尋找到社會上屬於自己的崗位,社會各界應該理解及包容。

東華三院自1870年成立以來,一直秉承「救病拯危、安老復康、興學育才、扶幼導青」的使命和承諾,時至今日,已發展成為全港歷史最悠久及規模最大的慈善服務機構。在過去百五年,東華三院在醫療、教育及社會服務方面均有長足發展,迎合社會需求,為市民提供收費低廉或免費的優質服務。現時東華三院共有350個服務單位,包括5間醫院、34個中西醫療衞生服務單位、57個教育服務單位、227個安老、青少年及家庭、復康及社會企業/創新的社會服務單位,兩個肩負守護和保育本地歷史文化重任的服務單位,分別為東華三院文物館和東華三院何超蕸檔案及文物中心,以及20個提供殯葬及廟祀服務的公共服務單位。

藉午膳時間,與馬生聊一聊工作的點滴 每天推著沉沉的垃圾車,走遍筲箕灣每一條大街小巷
馬先生是一位70多歲清潔工「判頭」,工時長、薪金不高,要清理的垃圾又重又大件,對他來說是吃力的。以他的年齡及財政狀況,其實他可以申請社會福利金,馬先生一句回覆:「我身為男人,別人靠我可以,我去靠人就不行,只要有氣有力,推得動垃圾車,我就要靠雙手『自己搵自己食』。」一份收入除了可以支持一位男士自食其力,更是馬先生的個人尊嚴,工作對他而言是自我價值的肯定。


洗碗工李女士指「我未有耐退休,我仍可工作。」
李女士,60多歲,千萬不要以「婆婆」稱呼她:「我才『60零歲』,未去到要退休。」李女士以前在飲食業擔任樓面,近年食肆開始轉用電子「落單」,加上五花八門的應用程式,她表示掌握不了,因此選擇了不太需要面對新科技的洗碗工作,然而重覆及堆堆疊疊的動作也不是簡單的工夫:「轉一份我能夠應付的、繼續工作就好,沒有工作個人很不自在。」原來工作是她一個未想捨棄的角色,亦是生活的寄託。


清潔工李夫婦表示「仔女有他們的世界,我們自己都『搞得掂』」 工作雖然辛苦,但靠自己而不需要子女擔心。
李氏夫婦70多歲,子女全數在內地生活,未有打算來港,而他倆亦沒有打算到內地與子女生活。「仔女有他們的世界,唔好要他們憂心,我們自己都『搞得掂』!」李氏夫婦一同從事清潔工,現正領取長者生活津貼,卻不領綜援:「我們留些積蓄以備不時之需,『綜援』應付不了緊急情況,到時要搞到仔女就唔好啦!」老一輩「多個錢傍身」、為子女考慮的想法,促使這一對夫婦在晴天雨天也在街上為我們清潔。
