Registration now open for 6th JC Youth Football Leadership Scheme

For the sixth consecutive year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is partnering with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Manchester United in launching the annual JC Youth Football Leadership Scheme. Through the Scheme’s interactive football activities and workshops, young people aged 15 to 19 are able to enhance their confidence and leadership skills. At the end of the programme, six outstanding young leaders will be selected by the Club to travel to Manchester, where they will apply their knowledge and broaden their horizons through volunteering and organising community football services. Age-appropriate youths are now welcome to sign up to participate in this once-a-lifetime experience that will help them to put their best foot forward.

This year, a new element of self-challenge has been added to the Scheme. With the help of the Hong Kong Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China and the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association, China, participants will not only learn to experience track cycling or skip rope; but during the course, they will also work on achieving pre-set individual and team goals. The training course also includes an elementary football coaching course led by Christopher O’Brien, Hong Kong Head Coach of Manchester United Soccer Schools, and special workshops by Vivek Mahbubani, a Hong Kong-born Indian comedian who was selected as one of Hong Kong’s "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" of 2018.

The around half-year leadership programme will begin in January 2019. Participants will not only attend in a series of workshops focusing on theory, practice, and fun, but they will also join hands to organise football events and serve the community. Young people aged 15 to 19 who are interested in football are welcome to register by the application deadline of 21 December 2018. All applicants will be invited to an interview with our mentors and social workers, after which about 45 will be invited to join the Scheme and together take part in valuable learning and growing experiences.
