“Concept of Death & Bereavement Needs among Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Effectiveness of Life and Death Education Model for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Hong Kong.”

With the phenomenon of “double ageing” appears in persons with intellectual disability and their parents, the service sector has increased its concern to the needs of them while in face of death and dying. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has started to study and to develop relevant services. From 2011 to 2013, we have joined hand with Dr Amy Chow of Hong Kong University to conduct a research  “Concept of Death & Bereavement Needs among Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Effectiveness of Life and Death Education Model for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Hong Kong.” The result has revealed that persons with intellectual disability can understand the concept about death, moreover, it has set up a model for the design of life and death education progamme for example group work method, and to testify its effectiveness in applying to persons of intellectual disability.

We have announced the result to the general public through a seminar held on 15 March 2013. We also invited guest speakers from overseas and from local to share their valuable experiences to the service.
