Introduction
Following the enactment and amendment of relevant legislation in 2024 concerning “dying-in-place” and “advance medical directives” under the “Advance Decisions on Life-Sustaining Treatment Ordinance”, to further enhance the long-standing development of life pre-planning and life & death education services, TWGHs “Endless Care Services” officially launched the “Peaceful Ending” Advance Care Planning Project in 2025. Through regular distribution of e-Poster, and enhanced life & death education programmes and trainings, elders were encouraged to engage with family members, healthcare and social service professionals to understand and discuss Advance Care Planning. The project also utilized the newly published “Advance Care Planning” Brochure across the residential services and community support services units, to encourage elders record and regularly review their preferences regarding end-of-life care, medical and financial arrangements. Elders can further sign relevant legal documents as needed while mentally competent, thereby empowered individuals to exercise autonomy in their final stage of life.
