History

With funding of HKD 38,680,000 from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Rehabilitation Services Section launched a five-year program titled The Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care Project: Unison (JCECC: Unison), starting in August 2024. This initiative, led by the Club, integrates research and training from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong and aims to establish care service standards for individuals with disabilities in the terminal phases of illness and their families.

Objectives

  • Establish a service and sustainable development model aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals with terminal disabilities (including physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and mental health recovery) and their families
  • Strengthen the capacity building of nursing and care staff to cultivate a professional service team
  • Promote community participation to create a supportive environment for individuals with terminal illnesses and disabilities

Service Recipients

  • Individuals with disabilities and terminal illnesses, and their families

Facilities

  • In the 17 residential care homes and hostels for individuals with disabilities at the Jockey Club Rehabilitation Complex, we established Comfort Care Room. This initiative aims to provide residents who wish to pass away peacefully in the facility with a dignified and high-quality environment in which to spend their final moments
