History

G/F – 1/F, 3 Hung Ling Street, Hung Hom, Kowloon Ho Yuk Ching Hostel [formerly known as Hang Ngai Manufacturing and Hostel) had been operated by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) since February 2002. It provides sheltered workshop training and home living for moderately intellectually disabled persons. On 1 April 2012, the operation of the service unit was transferred to Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

Objective

Apart from providing daily care, we are more committed to service users have the opportunity to make more new attempts. We believe that new experiences can enrich their ideas to life, so that their hearts belong to nurture their dreams. Many of their dreams, not simply the power of any individual can be achieved. Therefore, the staff through the establishment of a close relationship with service users, their families, employers, volunteers, and other friendly organizations, concerted efforts to participate in the development of their dreams.

Facilities

Ho Yuk Ching Workshop is situated at a 2-storey extension wing of a private housing estate, with an internal floor area of about 1 700 square metres. While the workshop, conference room, canteen, pantry and receiption are located on gorund floor, the first floor accommodates residential facilities with 9 rooms, with separate toilet and shower room. Meanwhile, there are also a multi-purpose room, medical room, kitchen, laundry room, pantry and office.

Service Recipients

Hostel

Eligibility for the Service

Moderately mentally handicapped persons who are:

  • aged 15 or above;
  • physically and mentally suitable for group living;
  • physically healthy with no active infectious disease; and
  • actively occupied in or being arranged for admission to day placement.

Residential Respite Service

  • the age of 6 or above of those mentally or physically handicapped persons
  • physically and mentally suitable for communal living ; and in need of a certain level of personal and/or nursing care not beyond the level provided by the particular type of residential service
