Fortune Library

Background

TWGHs applied the concepts of “Utilizing Social Capital” and “Sharing” to set up Fortune Library (“Jie Yeah”)  at the Taikoktsui community in 2021. Fortune Library, as a “Library of Things” in the community, launched an innovative service model to lend out items for free. It also facilitates the sharing of skills and time, and coordinates “Kai Fong” Masters and Community Volunteer Teams, which acts as a “Resources Sharing Mutual-Support Platform” to connect the community power.

To further apply the “Sharing” concept to support the low income group and those living in inappropriate housing units with a sustainable effect, TWGHs launched the “Goods for You” Community Support Project to collect community donations of households goods / food with long shelf-life and redistribute to the needy families, in order to ease their burdens on daily expenditure.

Introduction

The project will set up self-help distribution and donation machines at Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong District. Needy families assessed by social workers can redeem household goods / foods with long shelf-life at the machines regularly with their registered Octopus Card or assigned QR Code for a year. Community in-kind donations are welcome and can be donated through the self-help donation machines.

Objectives

To apply the “Sharing” concept and circulate the resources to those in needs in the community.
