“Pilot Programme on Community Living Room” - To Kwa Wan Community Living Room Project
Background and ObjectivesThe Social Welfare Department (SWD) is launching the “Pilot Programme on Community Living Room” – To Kwa Wan Community Living Room Project (hereafter referred as “the Project”), subsidised by the Community Care Fund (CCF) in July 2024. The Project aims to provide targeted support to households residing in subdivided units (SDUs), particularly those with children, by offering additional living space and extended interpersonal network. This initiative seeks to enhance living standards and sense of belonging to the community. SWD has appointed Tung Wah Group of Hospitals as the Approved Service Provider (ASP) responsible for operating the Project, which encompass the following three components: (i) Living space: The To Kwa Wan Community Living Room offers essential facilities such as shared kitchen/pantry, dining room, living room, study room for students and washing and dryer machines. Additional facilities, include a children’s play/reading corner, sports facilities, group activities space, health check facilities, a music/multi-media room, bathroom; (ii) Community support: The Project provide homework guidance services, information sessions and talks on various topics, including diet and nutrition, health and sports, home safety, hygiene, first aid for student, rental issues, financial management and home repair. Community resources such as food assistance and second-hand goods transfer will also be available. Referrals to appropriate community services (e.g. integrated family service centres, integrated children and youth services centres and neighbourhood elderly centres) will be made as needed. (iii) Care and share: The Project will engage the business sector and local organisations to provide in-kind donations (e.g. aids) and volunteer services (e.g. repair of electrical appliances, haircut, etc). The Project, will operate for three years, commencing in July 2024 and running until the end of June 2027. |
