Jockey Club Carer Space (Tai Kok Tsui)

Project Introduction

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has initiated and funded the Jockey Club Carer Space Project (the Project) in 2023. The Project, with an approved funding of over HK$290 million, adopts a carer-centric approach to provide and connect carers to timely and appropriate services.

The Project establishes carer-centric service centres in different districts to serve more than 27,000 carers and 15,000 older adults with care needs in 5 years, as well as to increase public awareness on carers needs and promote a carer-friendly community.

As one of the project partners, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is responsible for operating the Jockey Club Carer Space (Tai Kok Tsui). The centre will officially commence operations in December 2024, providing various support services to carers, elderly persons in need, and members of the community.

Project Characteristics

This Project pilots a carer-centric service model to understand carers' needs in different caregiving stages through validated assessment and provide service recommendations. Sau Po Centre on Ageing of The University of Hong Kong evaluates the Project’s effectiveness and develops capacity building strategies to drive sector development.

Project Objectives

• Establish a carer-centered platform to provide appropriate support and assist carers in connecting with community resources to address their needs throughout the caregiving journey.
• Promote mutual assistance among "peers" to strengthen the support network for caregivers.
• Raise public awareness of carers and advocate for a carer-friendly community.

Facilities

The centre is equipped with facilities including a Coffee Corner, Interview Room, Resource Corner, and Training Room. There is also a special cheer-up “Photo Corner” to promote interaction and mutual encouragement among the carers.
