History

In order to enhance the service quality of long term care, the Government has launched a “Multi-disciplinary Outreaching Support Teams for the Elderly with Additional Allocation for the Provision of Speech Therapy Service” (MOSTE), to establish district-based professional teams, which includes social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, to provide multidisciplinary outreaching service to the residents of private residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs). In addition, the outreaching speech therapy service will be delivered to the residents of contract RCHEs (and users of its attached day care units (DCU)) and self-financing RCHEs/ Nursing Homes (NHs).

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Lok Ying Outreaching Allied Health Service (LYOAHS) has been delegated by the Social Welfare Department to provide MOSTE to the residents and users of private, contract, self-financing RCHEs and NHs in Central, Western, Southern and Islands.

Objective

TWGHs LYOAHS aims at enabling the elderly persons to live in dignity and promoting their sense of worthiness by providing free of charge social and recreational activities, physiotherapies, occupational therapies, and speech therapies to the residents of private RCHEs, among which speech therapies will be provided to the residents of contract RCHEs (and users of its attached DCU) and self-financing RCHEs/ NHs as well. Moreover, in order to provide all-round care to the residents of private RCHEs and NHs, trainings and consultations of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy will be provided to their carers and RCHEs staff.

Service Recipients

Residents, their carers and staff of private, contract (and its attached DCU), self-financing RCHEs and NHs in Central, Western, Southern and Islands.
