History

Hong Kong's socio-economic transformation is rapidly changed from secondary industry to tertiary industry dominated. Benefit from the changes, women have more opportunities in labor markets. However, men from grassroots are easily experiencing those difficulties in facing under-employment and unemployment. Due to change in socio-economic status, the relation between two genders is shifting too. Men are stressed out under traditional gender stereotyping in which the men are framed and fixed to be strong even encountering distress. They seldom seek help from social services. In view of enhancing support to the men and building healthy gender relationship, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals set up the first Men Development Centre at Lei Muk Shue in 2017.

Objective

  • With Gender Mainstreaming perspective, reflecting the impact of stereotype in gender role and promoting the gender equality.
  • To recognize the strengths and contributions to family, community and themselves, the men are encouraged to establish a healthy and positive masculine role.
  • To encourage men in exploring, expressing and addressing their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual need.
  • To establish the supporting network for disadvantaged men and their families.
